- The illusion spawns 108 range away from Vengeful Spirit's death location. It appears either north, east, south or west from that spot.
- The illusion always spawns with full mana and health and all abilities off cooldown, regardless of their status on Vengeful Spirit.
- The illusion does not get a set duration upon spawning. It disappears once Vengeful Spirit respawns.
- The illusion spawns on every death, including on the short deaths with reincarnation.
- The created illusion is visually distinguishable from the real Vengeful Spirit for the enemies.
- The Aghanim's Scepter upgrade allows the illusion to cast its spells, but not items.

Vengeful Spirit's presence increases the physical damage of nearby friendly units. If an allied hero is slain under the aura, an illusion of your allied hero will be created to fight for that hero.
- This ability got reworked into the following Vengeance Aura (7.20-7.22h) in the 7.20 gameplay patch.
- Only increases base damage and that given by the primary attribute of affected units. Raw bonus damage is not increased.
- The aura's buff lingers for 0.5 seconds.
- When an allied hero dies (including clones, excluding illusions), an illusion of it spawns, attacking whoever killed it.
- These illusions are invulnerable, untargetable and uncontrollable.
- The illusion lasts either 6 seconds, or until its target dies, whichever is shorter.
- The illusions have 550 movement speed and unobstructed pathing. They also provide vision equal to the vision range of the hero.
- The illusions attempt to attack their targets. If they cannot be attacked, they follow the targets close enough until they can be attacked again.
- The illusions do not lose track when their targets turn invisible, hidden or move in the Fog of War. However, they need vision to attack.
- The illusions are completely immune to every spell, even those which affect invulnerable units.
- Just like other illusions, Vengeance Aura illusions bestow auras and can make use of other passive abilities which work for illusions.
- The illusions spawn no matter who kills them. If denied by an ally, they attempt to attack the ally, and can do so if the ally is denyable.
- When denying oneself, the illusion spawns as well, but instantly dies, since its target is dead already.

- When Vengeful Spirit dies to an enemy player, the player's hero will be afflicted with the negative Vengeance Aura.
- Despite the visual effect, when dying to enemy illusions or summons, the hero owning them gets the aura instead.
- Dying to non-player-controlled units gives no one the negative aura.
- Allies denying Vengeful Spirit do not get the negative aura.
- The positive and negative auras affect invulnerable units.
- Does not affect couriers.

By disassociating herself with this plane, Shendelzare avoids being hit by an offensive spell.
- This ability replaced Terror in the 6.00 gameplay patch, but was replaced back by Terror in the 6.04 gameplay patch.
- Works in the same way as Linken's Sphere does.
- This ability worked by itself passively, triggering when hit by a single targeted spell. However, the spell was manually castable with no effect, wasting the cooldown.

- Nether spirit is is phased, invulnerable, untargetable and uncontrollable.
- The Nether Spirit only attack enemies it sees.
- Nether follows Vengeful spirit and it will attack its closest enemy.
- If Nether Spirit is attacking an unit it will not follow vengeful spirit until its target dies, when its target dies it will continue to follow vengeful spirit again.
- This ability got replaced by Nether Swap in 5.10.
