Monkey King[]

About "counters" page - section about Lich is pure shit, because it can be said about any carry/ganker against any support (why not to mention AA, Warlock etc). Crystal Maiden section is even worse, because she can at least frostbite him. SF section is kinda OK (not good), but the comment is fair only during laning stage, when he (as well as many other mid/carry heroes) lacks of escape/survivability. Later on everything depends on farm and items, not on alone he is farming or not. I think trying to put any low-quality "questionable" sections just for the sake of it - is not a good idea. Rubick, Bounty Hunter and Slardar also should be mentioned in "bad against" section with explanations. i'll unlock it, but i don't want people putting all kids of badly written crap in there just because it's new. Please think carefully and write in the best English you can when you add to our pages. - Lemoncake(talk) 08:54, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Treasure[]

I figured that Emoticharm 2015 Emoticon Pack 7 Bundle was a treasure chest too today, so I thought why dont get those complicated numbers re-written.

Currently we only consider numbered treasures in the schema to be real treasures. Some items, like the emoticon bundle, acts like a treasure, but is not grouped with the others, so I'm not going to designate it as one unless Valve does. - Lemoncake(talk) 17:24, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Only admins can move pages, and I'm not sure we're looking for new admins. Either way, you'd have to ask User:Robjackson. Lemoncake(talk) 19:57, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
i dont know what is dat wiki, but as i worked with wikipedias (smalls too) i saw some groups (users) who can move pages --Dark2Eagle (talk) 20:04, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
I know, but Dota2Wiki has different user group rights. It is not up to me to change them. You will have to ask RJ. Lemoncake(talk) 20:12, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Hider[]

Is here some templates like that? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 13:23, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

If you ever see a good template on Wikipedia you can just copy and create them on Dota2Wiki. But for some reason I can't get this one to collapse here... The last person who tried deleted it, probably for that reason. Sorry, I'm the content guy, not the technical guy, for code stuff you should ask admin Kroocsciogsi. Lemoncake(talk) 18:00, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Curse Video feature?[]

Hey there! Curse is going to be releasing a video related to Dota2 and our video team was asking me if it could be featured here on Dota2 Wiki. I told them I'd need to chat with you, since videos have been a source of some minor trouble lately. It's going to be a stat and meta data analysis video on Hero Draft, StarLadder and The Summit. It would be ready tomorrow. CrsBenjamin (talk) 21:43, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Here is the video. I trust your judgement on the best placement! CrsBenjamin (talk) 21:56, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

emoticon gifs[]

I make them with transparent background but the ones with grey background were already made by Valve (found on update page / store page). I'll replace the grey bkg ones with transparent eventually —LingoSalad (talk) 03:39, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Basic attacks[]

I would just like to have more consistency on this wiki. Check what I've done with the Mana article for example, based on how the one for Health looked like. I'm not saying the current articles regarding different aspects of basic attacks should be deleted but rather creating a new general article about the topic, linking to the already existing ones.--DeKoenisch (talk) 18:55, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

The mechanics pages are basically a mishmash of stuff that's been written by various people over the years, and probably need to be overhauled at some point. But I think stuff like Attack Range, Attack Animation are separate mechanics and should remain separate. Maybe you could write a general purpose section on the Mechanics page, with links to the specific mechanics? - Lemoncake(talk) 03:34, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Alright, I created a Basic attacks section and an article on Attack damage. I added two formulas for main attack damage and base damage and wanted to ask whether you could make them look more like what they're supposed to be. --DeKoenisch (talk) 23:23, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

It looks fine to me, good work. - Lemoncake(talk) 04:31, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Attack range[]

I polished the article and added potential attack range values. However, that butchered the table. It would be amazing if you could fix that and add a way to sort it by both values.--DeKoenisch (talk) 12:16, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

It already sorts. TBH the current table is just a stopgap measure, so I'm not too concerned with it. If I were writing the page from scratch I'd remake the entire thing with separate rows for each hero, an extra column for Melee/Ranged and another column at the end for the modifier that changes the range. That'll probably look better. You guys can give that a shot if you want. - Lemoncake(talk) 13:05, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Bu3ny and I worked something out, how do you like it?---De-Könisch- 13:52, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Signature template[]

15:11, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Put this in your signature box thing:
[[User:DeKoenisch|<span style="display:inline-block; padding:0px 5px; border-radius:2px;background:#FFCC00; color:red">-De-Könisch-</span>]]

Collapsible tables[]

Do you know/can you tell me how they work? Or more like, why don't they work here? They worked before there with ability wrappers and I couldnt get them to work with skillboxminimals :( Bu3ny (talk) 21:05, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

You just forgot a pipe. - Lemoncake(talk) 05:35, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
I see, thanks. Also I just noticed that they are never collabsible in the preview while editing Bu3ny (talk) 13:10, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Need opinion[]

Hi, do you have idea how I could name the new column for basic attack damage/armor/etc values I planned to add to the hero infobox? I already tried 0 and 1, but "level 0" or two "level 1" would be kinda confusing. Bu3ny (talk) 21:09, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Categorization[]

Some articles don't have any categories or have dead ended ones. Who from admins are related with that question? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 12:55, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Yeah I gave up categorizing things a long time ago... there's just so many out of place. You can try categorize stuff if you want to though... - Lemoncake(talk) 21:26, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Maybe we can move all equipment items to Category:Equipment by alphabetical order which would be main in Category:Equipment? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 20:30, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean, isn't Category:Equipment already in alphabetical order..? - Lemoncake(talk) 21:00, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
I mean that Category:Equipment now is overcrowded (over 7k articles, +not full list of subcategories) but we can make it as main category 4 all equipments: items, tickets, chests etc.; and '..by alphabetical order' just 4 articles and no subcategories --Dark2Eagle (talk) 21:17, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Sorry I still don't quite get it, Category:Equipment already contains all equipments in alphabetical order. You want a category that's the same as Category:Equipment but without the subcategories? It won't be very different. I might be misunderstanding, maybe you should talk to Medok about this - Lemoncake(talk) 22:09, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Pennants[]

Should we change names of some pennants? cuz not all are equal as they name in the Dota 2 shop --Dark2Eagle (talk) 14:19, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

I know, but Valve's naming scheme is a mess... it might be a waste of time to do it now. I was hoping they would standardize the names someday, then we'd change it all at the same time. - Lemoncake(talk) 14:25, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Two #119 chests[]

We also missing #45 chest :D Medok 10:49, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I know, but items_game.txt says both are #119... #104 was supposed to be for Imbued Sculptor's Pillar 2015 but they didn't use it. #45 was also never used - Lemoncake(talk) 16:28, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Armor and damage types[]

Hey there! I stumbled across the Armor page, specifically this section: Armor#Table_of_resistances

The "corrections" look very fishy, are full of typos and weren't touched once since their introduction. I doubt that magic damage is dependent on any kind of armor. Can I remove the corrections part and the magic row from the armor table? I tried to find sources on that matter, but none of them mentions magic-armor-relations.

84.151.209.252 12:23, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

The tooltip already says Magic Damage is independent of armor, it's there for references sake, please do not remove. The corrections part can be edited or removed though. - Lemoncake(talk) 12:29, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
The armor types section is still based on DotA1 mainly.. I won't be surprised if no one really tested them in Dota2, since it would require checking many units and how they damage each other. He is right, magic resistance should not be listed as an armor type, not even as a reference. It works completely independent from armor and attack types in Dota2. In DotA1, when you give any unit armor type: hero, it will take 25% less magical damage. It's simply a part of that armor type and cannot be changed. Visage has a hidden passive ability which reduces his magic resistance by 20%, which results in him having 10% due to them stacking diminishingly. Same for Meepo, he has a hidden ability which gives him 15% magic res, so in DotA1, he has 36.625% magic res. Magic res is completely unrelated to armor in Dota2.
So as long as we don't get any infos from Valve how the attack types and armor types work in Dota2, the informations in that section will stay unreliable. It is possible to figure them all out with ingame testings but it will take hours. There are simply too many units. Bu3ny (talk) 13:24, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Set's customizations[]

I got from Compendium this set (coin exchanger), so how i can help improve "Customizations" section? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 00:24, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Wow, that's lucky! If you could make .webm or .gif previews, that would be great. Lemoncake(talk) 12:08, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
how 2 create it? xD --Dark2Eagle (talk) 14:53, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
It's a little complicated... I capture in-game video with Fraps, then import frames into Photoshop, then crop and save as .gif. For .webm you need to crop/edit with a video software like Adobe Premiere. - Lemoncake(talk) 15:34, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
mb we can cooperate somehow? cuz i just dont have enought will 2 do it) --Dark2Eagle (talk) 16:03, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry, when Reborn comes out I'll use the preview system to make a lot of gifs - Lemoncake(talk) 16:58, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Skeletown King[]

Why are we keeping the article for Skeleton King? He just got a re-skin and name change, it's not a different hero from Wraith King. You okay with getting rid of it? —LingoSalad (talk) 15:12, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

As written on his page, this article exists solely for archival purposes. Each hero has update and balance changelog, and archieved abilities on them pages, Skeleton exists coz he fully remaked, and adding all info on Wraith King page will make it too fat and slow to load. Maybe you have better idea to show archieved Skeleton on our wiki? Medok 16:06, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
The only thing which changed was his model and icons. The hero itself remains the same. He was not remade.
  • Bio: His name didn't change. Hero icon and minimap icon can go into the gallery, like how it's done for other heroes who got new hero/minimap icons. The bio could be put in the same image
  • Abilities: WK still has the exact same abilities. The only difference is on SK page, they are simply outdated. If an ability gets remade, they are put into the Replaced abilty section anyway, which WK has already (old Q and active mortal strike). So none of ability section need archiving. Ability icons can be put together with hero icons etc into gallery
  • Recommended items: Besides new items getting added, it didn't change. Also, it doesn't work on SK's page anyway.
  • Tips: The tips section of both pages are identical. WK got the templates added over time, beside that, nothing changed. Also, I don't think sections related to strategy need archiving at all.
  • Trivia: WK's trivia section already has a line for SK, so the trivia section in SK can be discarded
  • Update history: WK has everything SK has in his update history.
  • Balance changelog: Same here, everything which is in SK's changelog already is in WK's changelog
  • Replaced abilities: Sections are 1:1 the same atm.
  • Gallery: The images can simply be put into WK's gallery
  • SK's voice lines: They already have an own page, so one link to them from WK's page should be enough
  • SK sounds: His sounds remained unchanged anyway
Bu3ny (talk) 16:45, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
So after SK will be "merged" into WK, we delete SK pages. Medok 17:10, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
This is all possible, but is it really necessary? Unless it's interfering with something, I think it's just easier to keep the page and let it act like a natural archive. - Lemoncake(talk) 00:44, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
But what exactly is it archiving? Besides the 6 icons and the bio, nothing there is worth archiving. It's essentially the same page existing twice, just that one uses different icons and is stuck in 2013. Also if you look at the other languages of those 2 pages, it became a whole mess. Keeping SK also causes him to still be listed in all the categories and some templates don't work for that page (e.g. recommended items). I think just redirecting it to WK would be simplier than to keep fixing things there. Everything which would need to be archived already is on WK's page. Bu3ny (talk) 01:08, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Ok, go ahead and do it. - Lemoncake(talk) 01:20, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Now we can delete Skeleton King completely? Medok 11:18, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
I think redirecting it is better. Bu3ny (talk) 13:29, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Categories[]

So, what do you think? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 03:52, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

That's pretty cool! Maybe we could make an option to sort it by hero on the Loading Screens page. - Lemoncake(talk) 06:42, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
Found this sh... which add all Loading Screens to same category. Mb we will collect all LS in cat like: Category:Loading Screens by name? Where will be all LS as list (without articles Loading Screen, etc. and subcats --Dark2Eagle (talk) 13:32, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Offtopic: we have 2 same categories: Category:Slot N/A and Category:Slot None; they should be merged --Dark2Eagle (talk) 01:21, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

Does Category:Exclusive equipment should exist? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 00:48, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Herolike couriers[]

I want to collect all Pudglings, Golden or not Seeklings in one category, so what'd be its name? --Dark2Eagle (talk) 22:30, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Maybe "Couriers based on Heroes". Does that include Tinkbot, Butch or Amphibian Kid? - Lemoncake(talk) 22:33, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Hm.. i dont know. All these Herolings are strongly based on Heroes but anothers just looks like. Maybe "Couriers based on Heroes" can be for all these couriers but all herolings should be added to another subcategory --Dark2Eagle (talk) 22:43, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Sounds fine to me - Lemoncake(talk) 22:44, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Converting sound files[]

I figured out that simply changing the file format to .mp3 works for all files which previously were mp3. As for wav files, This seems to work for sound files. I didn't have any success with model files yet, nor have I found a solution for them. Bu3ny (talk) 21:16, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

I'll check it out, thanks - Lemoncake(talk) 00:19, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

penguin sounds[]

I already had them uploaded as they were added to the game few weeks ago 1 2 3. I don't have any sound at this moment, did they change them? If no, then yoou maybe want to use those, because they are completely unedited. They are from the old client still. Bu3ny (talk) 11:58, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Emoticon Unicode[]

" (Undo revision 1025471 by Xylber (talk) im fairly certain this is considered a bug and works only for the user, and does not display the emoticon to other players)" Hi man, I tested it online before editing the wiki: As long as you OWN the emoticon packs, you can use them on chat and in-game, and it is shown for everybody. You can even bind them, for example, for runes I have: bind F3 "say_team >>>>  CHECK RUNES  <<<<;chatwheel_say 57" BUT, if you DO NOT have got the emoticon pack, then, it will only show in-game, and it will show an empty space on chat. --Xylber (talk) 01:31, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Are you sure they're visible to other people? This has been brought up on Reddit and to me personally before, and each time tested it only shows for the person typing regardless of who owns what. Either way I don't think this is intentional on Valve's part and is likely more of a bug. If you want you can make a trivia reference to this bug after the list, but the wiki is for official information only and we don't want to detail potential exploits, even very minor ones. - Lemoncake(talk) 01:52, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I tried it, party and other members can see the emoticons in-game, but does not work on the channels chat. If you own an emoticon pack, try to use the code on the channels chat (or party chat) before entering a game; and try it in-game while playing and it works on both places. If you do not own the emoticons, it will only works on in-game. Anyway, if the reason to not put this info is because it is not official, I found this reason good enough to not publish the information.

I'm not sure what you mean. There's also {{Single-hero cosmetic item nav/item}} and also dictionary names for slots like {{Dictionary/cosmetic items/weapon}}, some of which don't have Chinese strings. Hope that helps. - Lemoncake(talk) 18:30, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
I mean the cosmetic items' name, like {{Cosmetic}}, it can only shows the item's English name. Is there any where to translate it?
It's a little too hard to do language switching for all the items. If you look at a Russian page, their solution is to use the English names with {{Cosmetic Item infobox wrapper}}. You can edit the title of the page with {{DISPLAYTITLE:}}. - Lemoncake(talk) 20:43, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Ability icons[]

Hi, I found that Category:Custom_ability_icons is missing icons from some immortals and new sets such as Darkclaw Emissary. I see that this is commonly forgotten. I am really into ability icons, so I wish to keep this page updated :) The problem is I haven't find how to edit it. I tried clicking on EDIT SOURCE on category page, but only the header is shown (while the icons are below "Media in category Custom ability icons"). Can you teach me how to edit? So I can help it up to date in the future. Thanks

Yeah I kinda stopped categorizing icons a long time ago because there are just so many to keep track of. If you want, you can categorize them by going to the image file page, then just press edit and add [[Category:Custom ability icons]] anywhere. - Lemoncake(talk) 08:10, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
Well, I don't know it was THIS EASY. Thanks, I will re-check those missing icons. Thanks again :)

Template[]

because it can easier to translate 0.0

But why without template can edit faster?

It takes longer to process templates, or so I'm told. If you look at big hero pages like Invoker, it's very slow because of so many templates. That's why I split up the Patches page into different years, now it's much faster. - Lemoncake(talk) 11:02, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

lang[]

Hi! Why you're using empty lang strings? Nothing is displayed when empty. (reference) — The preceding assigned comment was added by Tark {Finish Him!Contribs} 17:55, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

User profile comment rights[]

I have an error an all profile pages, even my own: "You do not have rights to add comments or reply."

I can do normal edits on talk pages though. Molldust (talk) 09:04, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

This is happening on all gamepedia wikis as I just noticed. Some kind of shadowban, I must somehow slipped in the spam filter. Nothing you can fix :s Molldust (talk) 17:57, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Gamepedia staff is telling me that users now have to register an email to their accounts before they can comment. Try that? - Lemoncake(talk) 18:04, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Meeh, how's that a even a thing. You are right, ty for diggin into that. Molldust (talk) 19:37, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Heroes page[]

When I saw the hero page rework, I noticed that the hero descriptions would be optimal to be placed in the Gameplay section of each Hero.

Example: Bloodseeker#Gameplay

The Flayed Twins' obscene demand for blood could only be met through constant carnage, a task for which Strygwyr was more than suited. Driven by an insatiable Thirst icon Thirst, the Bloodseeker senses injured foes from leagues away, allowing him to chase them down with eager speed. Through sacred markings on his gear, the blood of the freshly sacrificed flows directly to the Flayed Ones, leaving just enough to mend his wounds and fuel his Bloodrage icon Bloodrage. Strygwyr paints the land with a crimson ring, silencing foes caught in this Blood Rite icon Blood Rite. Those who run only hasten their own demise. The Bloodseeker Rupture icon Ruptures every artery, causing his victim to hemorrhage with each step. By blood loss or by Strygwyr's tribal blades, death is but a foregone conclusion.

If you let me do some magic, I can transclude the gameplay info into the Heroes page and generate the 3 lists with SMW templates. Molldust (talk) 08:09, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Heroes Table[]

I kind of thought that, maybe the table of Heroes that used to appear at the bottom of each Hero's page should be left there? For ease of navigation? Because I used to just jump from Hero to HEro using that table but now I have to keep the Hero page open just to do that, and to me this previous layout is kind of easier. Arbok77 (talk) 19:29, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

That would be nice, but the 110+ templates make the page load a lot slower, same reason I'm splitting stuff up now. If I find a way to reimplement it with minimal templates, then I will. - Lemoncake(talk) 19:37, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

How do you think about User:Dotalim0204/Sandbox1? 0.0--Dotalim0204 (talk) 09:17, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Is that for TI6? It looks good - Lemoncake(talk) 19:47, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
I suggest to use <tabber> instead if really necessary. Otherwise this will lead to too much fragmentation if we split up every tournament. It's kinda reasonable on Hero pages because they have really long abstract and are called very often. Molldust (talk) 19:53, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
But if i use tabber it will made the page too big, then the edit will be hard --Dotalim0204 (talk) 08:39, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

In-game Prediction[]

Here's the list. Don't know how to make it more beautiful. o.o User:Elite_stay/Sandbox

Do these give Battle Points? I haven't played in a while... - Lemoncake(talk) 14:05, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Indirectly yes. That three new achivement is about this. After ban-pick phrase and before 0:00, you can guess random 4 prediction. I got 30 in two days ;P --Elite stay (talk) 14:12, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
I don't really know where to put it either... On second thought maybe we don't need to put it on the page :x Sry for making you do the work - Lemoncake(talk) 14:34, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
nvm. --Elite stay (talk) 14:44, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

I'd put any information on the The International 2016 Battle Pass/Fantasy League, although I don't really think we need to do it. - Lemoncake(talk) 13:45, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
OK :) --Elite stay (talk) 14:36, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Asking for clarification on writing guides[]

I can't find any information on any specific rules as to how hero guides are supposed to be written, just the reference to the already completed Juggernaut guide. I made a change to the Centaur Warrunner guide where I changed up the recommended ability level order. I changed it to what I almost always tend to build on Centaur. Granted, I've played less than thirty games as Centaur, but I have something like a 70% winrate with him in Ranked and overall that ability order has worked very well for me. However, it was reverted because the previous ability order was more commonly picked by players. Should I create a second "build" under this popular one?

Also, in regard to the "items" section of the guides...should it remain the default build Valve has set for that hero, or should I change it to what makes sense for that hero in the current meta? Centaur is a particularly bad offender in terms of the default item build being really bad; it doesn't even list Armlet as an item he should ever get when it's one of the most important items, Heart of Tarrasque is listed as a situational item while Blink Dagger is a core item (should be reversed in my opinion), and Hood is also a core item when it's in reality a situational one that is often not that useful.

Basically, I just want solid info on what I can change, and what I can't. Sorry if I overlooked some guide to writing guides that's hidden around here somewhere. - Flotch (talk) 20:12, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for contributing. You're right, I should've put up the guide, although few people follow it. Generally we prefer tips from players experienced with their hero. You can certainly add a second ability build if you want, and the items list do not need to follow Valve's official recommendations. Hope that clears things up! - Lemoncake(talk) 04:04, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Talents[]

Can you please put the level 10 talent first, atm you have 25 > 20 > 15 > 10. It's really annoying and its basically backwards. The first talent that is available should be listed first. Zzienzz (talk) 17:29, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

That's the way it is in-game. I'll change it if more people want it that way - Lemoncake(talk) 18:05, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
