Gameplay[]

Playstyle
Ogre Magi minimap icon Ogre Magi is the embodiment of "dumb muscle". While having a meager mana pool, his health pool can become one of the largest in the game. Not depending on items, Ogre is potent at all points in the game, being able to trade hits early on, burst foes in the mid game, and help with late game pushes.
Pros Cons
  • Tanky with high armor, health regeneration, and strength gain.
  • Has a stun and slow.
  • Easy to play.
  • Multicast can work with various abilities and items.
  • No intelligence and no intelligence gain.
  • Mana intensive abilities.
  • Multicast is rather reliant on luck.
  • Poor at clearing waves.
  • Limited burst damage potential.

Support[]

  • Ignite and his high base armor help Ogre Magi trade hits with the enemy laners.
  • Ogre Magi should max out Ignite Scales quite well whereas Fireblast scales less.
    • However, Fireblast with Multicast can deal great amounts of damage at high levels.
  • A support Ogre Magi can max Bloodlust after the laning stage to increase attack speed and movement speed of allies, allowing them to fight and jungle better.
    • Otherwise, max both Ignite and Fireblast for increased damage output and disables.

Tips & Tactics[]

General[]

  • Take advantage of Ogre's tankiness early on. Trade hits with enemies while taking little damage yourself.
  • Once your lane partner is safe for a little bit, go gank other lanes. Your stun and slow should make getting kills really easy.
  • Manage your mana. Ogre can run out really quickly if you're not careful, so try not to use more than is needed.
  • You are a good chaser: your Fireblast can stun an enemy to keep them in place, while your Ignite damages and slows the target. Use these abilities to help your teammates get kills.
  • Ogre Magi has great base armor and high base attack damage, allowing him to harass the enemies out of lane as most heroes probably cannot win at trading hits against Ogre Magi early on.
  • Since Fireblast and Bloodlust scale less than Ignite, we max Ignite first in both builds. Then, you can chose to max either Bloodlust or Fireblast, depending on what your team needs. A max level Fireblast lowers the cooldown and adds more nuking power, useful if your team needs either more control or damage, while a max level Bloodlust provides an attack speed bonus and a movement speed bonus, useful for carries that farm with right clicks exclusively, such as Medusa minimap icon Medusa.

Abilities[]

Fireblast icon Fireblast[]

  • Use Fireblast to stop foes from escaping or channeling spells. Follow up with Ignite to ensure your allies can catch up to the target.
    • Or, consider using Ignite first to slow you opponents down in order for you to catch up and follow with Fireblast, as Ignite has a much greater cast range than Fireblast.
  • If Multicast procs, it increases the damage and the stun duration. At 4x Multicast, it more than doubles the stun duration.

Ignite icon Ignite[]

  • Do not discount the damage done by Ignite, as it has the potential to deal heavy damage to multiple targets with Multicast, making it a good pushing/counter-pushing ability.
  • Unlike many other damage-over-time spells, Ignite deals its damage in fixed 1-second intervals.
  • Multiple Ignite debuffs do not stack, it just adds to the duration.
  • Ignite has a much greater cast range than Fireblast. Cast Ignite first to slow you opponents down in order for you to catch up and follow with Fireblast.
  • Use in lane to deal heavy damage and harass enemies along with your right clicks.

Bloodlust icon Bloodlust[]

  • Bloodlust is a rather versatile ability, allowing you or anyone you cast it on to make a swift escape or entrance during teamfights, as well as being a powerful steroid for any carry. Consider keeping your Bloodlust always on a carry during a teamfight.
  • Bloodlust works best if you cast it onto your carry before a fight begins to give them a decent attack and movement speed boost.
  • Bloodlust can be used to help you and your allies escape with the bonus movement speed.
  • Bloodlust can be cast on towers to increase the odds of them killing low health enemies who are in the radius of the tower.
  • Bloodlust will be cast on random allies in the vicinity if Multicast procs.
    • Targets are chosen at random, so heroes are not prioritised when Multicast procs.
  • Bloodlust will target nearby heroes automatically if set to autocast. Be careful of your mana usage, as with the low cooldown period, you may inadvertently find yourself out of mana in a crucial moment.
    • Bloodlust will only be automatically cast if your allies do not currently have the Bloodlust buff on them.
    • Autocast will interrupt your current queue order, but will not cause you to disengage a channeling ability.
  • You can use Bloodlust on courier to speed up its movement speed.

Multicast icon Multicast[]

  • Multicast gives Ogre Magi a chance to cast his abilities again without spending additional mana.
  • Multicast also works on items when Ogre Magi target them at enemies, but it does not target the same enemy more than once.

Unrefined Fireblast icon Unrefined Fireblast[]

  • Unrefined Fireblast has a higher damage and lower cooldown than Fireblast. Otherwise, it is basically the same ability.
  • Does not need Multicast leveled, but does need Aghanim's Scepter icon Aghanim's Scepter to unlock and use.
  • Always uses 35% of your current mana, meaning it is most effective when used when almost out of mana instead of when you are nearly at full mana.
    • Because of this, you can also always use this ability no matter how low your mana is.
    • Be careful of your mana usage when you cast this at full mana, as it will severely deplete your mana pool and limit your other spellcasting and item usage.
  • Chain Fireblast and Unrefined Fireblast for powerful disabling effect.

Fire Shield icon Fire Shield[]

  • Unlocked using Aghanim's Shard, Fire Shield summons 3 fireballs around an ally (multicastable).
  • Against heroes that rely on doing damage in multiple quick attacks, Fire Shield soaks up a lot of damage, such as Ursa minimap icon Ursa, Templar Assassin minimap icon Templar Assassin or Phantom Assassin minimap icon Phantom Assassin, however, it becomes less useful against heroes which rapidly attack such as Sniper minimap icon Sniper or Drow Ranger minimap icon Drow Ranger.
    • Despite this, getting Fire Shield may be a good idea to shield off some of the damage that the enemy can do, especially with Multicast.

Items[]

Starting items:

  • Force Staff icon Force Staff gives Ogre much needed mobility to keep with foes or escape from fights, as well as slightly increasing your mana pool.

Late game:

Situational items:

  • Orb of Venom icon Orb of Venom increases the damage you do while zoning enemies and makes it harder for them to run away from you.
  • Soul Ring icon Soul Ring can be picked up in lane to provide additional mana on demand, and Ogre's high health pool for an intelligence hero lowers the risk of using this.
  • Urn of Shadows icon Urn of Shadows should be heavily considered if getting a lot of roaming kills early on.
  • Drum of Endurance icon Drum of Endurance gives decent attributes for its low cost. The extra movement speed also stacks with Bloodlust.
  • Veil of Discord icon Veil of Discord improves your armor and health regen even more, gives you much needed stats, and amplifies your as well as your teammates' spell damage.

  • Octarine Core icon Octarine Core, while expensive, will make Ogre a beast to take down. The spell lifesteal means as long as you cast spells on enemies that's more health they have to go through, it gives you a huge amount of health and mana, and it lowers the cooldown on your abilities even more.
  • Shiva's Guard icon Shiva's Guard gives you even more AoE slow in fights and increases your already high armor to phenomenal levels. In addition, the bonus intelligence increases your mana and spell damage by a decent amount.
  • Scythe of Vyse icon Scythe of Vyse gives an additional disable, plenty of attributes, and great mana regeneration. The hex works great with Multicast to disable multiple enemies at once.
  • Dagon icon Dagon increases Ogre's stats and spell lifesteal.Energy burst multicasts and nukes potentially 3 enemies.
  • Ethereal Blade icon Ethereal Blade amplifies his spell power and synergises with the rest of his abilities.
