Bad against...
- Kinetic Field and Glimpse can completely negate Stampede.
- Feast is an effective tool against Centaur Warrunner, who generally has high health and low armor, and compensates the reflected damage of Retaliate.
- If activated, Rage protects Lifestealer from Hoof Stomp, Double Edge, and Stampede.
- With high health and rarely buying Linken's Sphere or Black King Bar, Centaur Warrunner is a good target for Reaper's Scythe. However, Centaur Warrunner can resolve this problem by buying Pipe of Insight or Hood of Defiance to diminish its damage.
- Heartstopper Aura will do well against high health heroes such as Centaur Warrunner.
- Once you've taken a point in Retaliate, Nyx can easily initiate on you: he can use Spiked Carapace and hit you with Vendetta. The damage from Retaliate will be reflected back to you, stunning you with no chance to react after he's revealed himself, and should guarantee a successful Impale.
- Centaur has nothing to deal with Refraction that will negate all of his burst damage.
- Psionic Traps provide good vision, making for him harder to initiate.
Others
- Winter Wyvern's Arctic Burn can also be a useful tool against Centaur, who generally has very high health. Winter's Curse on Centaur can cause Retaliate to damage allies who are forced to attack him.
- Abilities dealing damage based on a percentage of max health, like Midnight Pulse and Whirling Death.
Items
- Radiance prevents Centaur Warrunner from blinking, forcing him to use Stampede.
- Black King Bar, if used well, will save a victim from Centaur Warrunner's onslaught.
- Rod of Atos can root a hero during Stampede.
Good against...
- He can't take you very easily, and his nukes are not strong enough to deal with Centaur Warrunner.
- Centaur Warrunner deals huge AoE damage and applies an AoE disable through Hoof Stomp, affecting the double as well the main Arc Warden.
- Magnetic Field is not very effective against melee heroes.
- This ability also increases his allies' attack speed, meaning Retaliate will deal more damage.
- Stampede catches him easily due to the lack of escape mechanisms.
- Whenever Doom casts his ultimate, Centaur Warrunner can cast Stampede and allow the Doomed hero to run away, wasting Doom's ultimate.
- They are both nukers, but Centaur Warrunner has superior health and strength gain.
- Centaur's low Intelligence makes Lua error in Module:Ability_ID at line 61: Could not find Cargo data for "Mana Burn". do low damage.
- Bar some creative skill builds, Centaur's Hoof Stomp stun duration should always last longer than Spiked Carapace stun, so escaping unscathed is hard for Nyx.
- With Blink Dagger and detection, Centaur can devastate Nyx in the open.
- Retaliate deals damage to Phantom Assassin for every attack and Stifling Dagger thrown at Centaur.
- Blur cannot evade Double Edge.
- His illusions will kill themselves in a few hits because of Retaliate. The nukes from Hoof Stomp and Double-Edge should be enough to clear them for a large portion of the game
- Centaur Warrunner's small mana pool makes Diffusal Blade's damage much lower once Centaur doesn't have any more mana left to burn. Keep in mind that Double Edge does not cost mana.
- Be wary when chasing down Phantom Lancer. Hoof Stomp's terrible cast time makes it quite easy to dodge with Doppelganger.
- Headshot and Shrapnel slow is ineffective against a team with haste (which Stampede gives).
- Commonly picked up mobility items and hasted movement during his Stampede (as well as his high health pool) make him extremely hard to kill from a distance, damaging Sniper with Retaliate and Blade Mail if he has one.
- A low health pool and no escape mechanism makes him an easy target for Centaur Warrunner's burst damage and initiation (even making his team possible initiators with Stampede).
- Focus Fire grants Windranger a massive attack speed bonus, while her attack damage is generally quite low. This, combined with Windranger's low health pool and armor, makes Retaliate do absolutely massive damage over a short time, making Centaur a hero she can never expect to kill or harass.
- Windrun grants evasion, but Centaur Warrunner does not rely on successful attacks in order to do damage. Hoof Stomp, Double Edge, and Stampede all do large amounts of magical damage and can completely demolish Windranger in a moment.
Others
- Troll Warlord's high speed attack makes Retaliate deal a lot of damage to him.
- Night Stalker is all about right-clicks. His nuke, Void is also not that threatning once you have Hood of Defiance, your core item.
- Anti-Mage's Mana Void won't do a lot of damage because Centaur has a low mana pool. Mana Break is also relatively ineffective against him.
- Heroes who are reliant on illusions: Chaos Knight, Phantom Lancer, Naga Siren.
Items
- Lotus Orb can be a "double-edged sword" against Centaur as it gives him a chance to deal Double Edge's damage twice. However, Lotus Orb can dispel Stampede's slow.
- Diffusal Blade and Scythe of Vyse cannot slow hasted heroes during Stampede.
Works well with...
- Aphotic Shield negates some of the self-damage dealt by Double Edge, as well as providing a reliable additional aoe nuke when the shield breaks.
- Moonlight Shadow can help Centaur set up an initiation.
- Hoof Stomp's long stun makes Sacred Arrow easier to land.
- Warcry makes Centaur Warrunner even tankier against attacks.
- If Aghanim's Scepter is bought, Centaur Warrunner can take benefit of God's Strength especially with a mecanism of attack speed boosting( Bloodlust, Inner Beast, Assualt Cuirass, Armlet Of Mordiggian, Helm of The Dominator)
- Snowball allows for easy initiation which can be followed up with Hoof Stomp.
- Toss allows for a quick initiation which can be followed up with Hoof Stomp.
- Wave of Terror amplifies damage dealt by Retaliate.
- Nether Swap can position Centaur into enemies or pull enemies into Centaur for a Hoof Stomp initiation.
- Ink Swell can unleash its full power when combined with Stampede or even Hoof Stomp, since both are AoE and the first depends of more than one enemy hero near.
Others
- Any hero that can make enemies silent or drain their mana therefore force them to attack physically like Lion, Keeper Of the Light , Death Prophet, Silencer, Skywrath mage, Antimage and armed with Diffusal Blade heroes like Arc Warden, Mirana, Troll Warlord, Riki, Phantom Lancer, Weaver, Juggernut, Naga Siren, Spectre
- Heroes who can reduce enemy damage so they take much more damage than deal: Bane, Razor, Underlord
