Ancient 2 rank up at 3840 mmr. I was Ancient 1, i lost lot of MMR (from around 4200 to 3700), today i reached 3840 MMR and ranked up to Ancient 2. Coco 21/02/2018 18.104.22.168 23:16, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
See, this enforces the theory that the system pegs people's MMRs at their highest point, and secretly keeps them there if they suddenly lose a lot of MMR. It seems like a lot of competitive games do this to combat people who throw or derank on purpose. - Lemoncake(talk) 10:08, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
I've been Legend 3 yesterday (3845 MMR) and lost a game. Now I've won one again (back to 3844 MMR) and received Legend 4, although I only played two games and have less MMR as Legend 4 than compared to yesterday when I was Legend 3. Does anyone know why that would happen? If at all then my rank should decrease, also because of mmr inflation. 22.214.171.124 13:06, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Max
I'm guessing the system thinks your individual performance has improved beyond what your MMR would predict, which is common and is supposed to even out over more games. Either way your numbers only deviate slightly from the table, which is normal. This discussion area is for serious discrepancies with table. - Lemoncake(talk) 15:03, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
I've been Legend 4 since the re-calibration (dropped from 4400 to 4000 after my calibration games). Now after I won my last game, I suddenly got from Legend 4 to Ancient 3. My solo MMR is still only 4010. (https://www.dotabuff.com/players/69879470, https://i.imgur.com/YyR7z5t.png) Maybe the system sometimes doesn't award medals based on your solo MMR at all? My party MMR before the update was 4556 and I have never played a party ranked game since the update. — The preceding unsigned comment was added byAudisek (talk) • (contribs) 8 January 2018 • Please sign your posts with ~~~~
No, that's unlikely. Valve states openly that solo games are the primary determinant. More likely the system did not truly believe you dropped 400 MMR so quickly, suspected you were throwing games, and bumped you right back up to your last "stable" MMR the second you won a match. This is pretty common in competitive games to discourage intentional deranking/griefing. That your medal matches your party MMR more closely is probably just a coincidence. - Lemoncake(talk) 12:52, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
Just to update about Divine 5 stars rank, one of my friends has got 5986 solo MMR and ranked as Divine 4 stars. Another one got 6024 solo MMR and ranked as Divine 5 stars (without any leaderboard listing number). Hence, I think that Divine 5 stars rank is avaliable only if you get 6000 solo MMR and above. And also, another friend got 4982 solo MMR and received Ancient 4 stars which is not alligned with the table from wiki. I have checked with 14 friends and MMR 1 star from Medal is now going with 180 MMR sequence, but not 140 MMR sequence as it is shown in table. Hope someone who is responsible could update. Thanks! — The preceding unsigned comment was added byLunaAlicemoonfung (talk) • (contribs) 19 January 2018 • Please sign your posts with ~~~~
If you're not on the leaderboards you will automatically get Divine 5 regardless of how high your MMR is, because that's the highest medal for anyone who's not listed on the leaderboards. The other MMR you report are still within reasonable margin of error, but I'll keep your information in mind if more reports come up. - Lemoncake(talk) 12:52, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
I had a friend that was Guardian 3 or 4, and after not playing for an extended period of time, came back, won a game and was promoted all the way to Crusader 1 immediately. This leads me to believe the medals are possibly based on percentile of players. If someone doesn't play for a little while and the percentile of a player at a particular MMR increases without play due to others dropping, you can skip some rank-stars. 126.96.36.199 04:59, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
24/Jan/2018: I just got promoted to Legend 3 and my solo MMR is 2700. This totally shows the MMR itself isn't the sole deciding factor. it'd be good to know what's behind the calculations to help boost the medal but i think it comes to overall performance in game (fighting, pushing, farming, playing objective dota, etc) - IGN: hotmilk (dotabuff id 86737457) — The preceding unsigned comment was added by188.8.131.52 (talk) • (contribs) 25 January 2018 • Please sign your posts with ~~~~
This page is keeping with the high standards of gamepedia, I see... In that it is complete speculation based on absolutely no empirical data whatsoever. For example, I just attained Legend 1 and my profile says my MMR is 1863... That isn't a little bit off, that's 1500 MMR off from this chart. Some portion of the assumption on the previous page is baseless. Probably the correlation to MMR at all. I think it is on a +/- wins since attainment to move up, but whatever. Just post guesses as facts.
There is no empirical data available, you are welcome to provide it if you have any. The vast majority of reports we get are within ~200 MMR of the table, which is normal. Yours is an odd exception. - Lemoncake(talk) 03:08, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
I got an indicated 308 MMR. My medal is Crusader 1. I dont have a party MMR. The game definitely does not take the MMR, its calculating your skill in game based on "whatever" I guess. I have high average lasthits, GPM and EPM, but I afk often and thus lose games. (Edit: 335 MMR, Crusader 2 promotion just happened.) — The preceding unsigned comment was added by184.108.40.206 (talk) • (contribs) • Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Very low MMRs probably also fluctuate a lot, leading to imprecise rankings - Lemoncake(talk) 00:31, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
After being legend 5 (party mmr 3950, Solo highest 4150) for a while I had a large drop in solo mmr 4100-3200, after a good weekend (playing on solo) gained back to 3.5k on a winstreak, after game received ancient 0. I also have a feeling that the ranking remembered my highest 4150 solo, and decided after I began to regain mmr, that it would consider it from here rather than where my actual mmr was. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by220.127.116.11 (talk) • (contribs) • Please sign your posts with ~~~~
I definitely think the mmr estimates need to be updated. They are way off based on what I have seen from multiple accounts. Observations from 3 different accounts. Note that these all happened after I returned to the game after an extensive (18 month) break from the game (in case that might have had some bearing to the calibration as well).
The first account I signed back on and played on got calibrated at archon 4 at roughly 3100 mmr. Moved to Archon 5 at roughly the same mmr. Dropped a bunch of MMR (to 2900 or so). And suddenly after a particular game on sniper (who i was playing a lot during the initial calibration) which was won after we were down Mega creeps, I suddenly moved up to Legend 3 at 2900 mmr. Then moved up to Legend 4 at 2800 mmr roughly after another 50 or so odd games. 0 Party ranked games on this account. I have roughly 4500 games on this account and about 40% of the games were ranked (most of my other games were before ranked MM was introduced).
2nd account i logged on to which I calibrated after hitting Legend 3 on the 1st account. Calibrated at Legend 4 at 3368 mmr. Hit legend 5 3-4 games later at 3389. Dropped a bunch of MMR. Hit Ancient 0 at 2899 MMR. No party ranked games on this a/c as well. This account was created (iirc) before ranked MM was introduced. Still has quite a few non-ranked games on it. Has some 1200 games on it.
3rd account logged on after hitting Legend 5 on 2nd account. This a/c calibrated at Legend 2 at 3540 mmr. This account was certainly created after ranked MM was introduced. Has some 250 games on it. Most of the games were on invoker. I did not however play any invoker while calibrating (or thereafter). No party ranked games on this account as well. - mOCHU
It sounds like the system is remembering your highest MMR point (even across accounts) and just keeps bumping you higher and higher even if you drop a lot. Seems like this is happening to a lot of people. I'll keep these numbers in mind. - Lemoncake(talk) 03:37, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
Yes.. but does that answer cover why the initial calibration to legend 4 (on the 2nd account) was at 3368 mmr (much lower than current estimates)? And an update. On this particular account, just hit Ancient 1 on 3018 MMR!! And not sure if this is a coincidence or not... but all these rank-ups seem to happen after particularly long games (wins). Would definitely appreciate a more fuzzy range definition at least on the page (despite current disclaimer). Sick of people reporting me on every loss calling me an account buyer :) - mOCHU
The vast majority of reports I get are still within range of our estimates. It does seem like people with more than 1 account have greater discrepancies, I'm guessing that's an anti-smurf system, but I'm not sure. - Lemoncake(talk) 07:13, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
I am legit 1k, 1.18 to be exact and hit guardian 4. Seems to high? It is my only account also.
I'm reporting yet another case of hitting Ancient 0 around 4200, dropping a bunch (-400 from peak maybe?), winning 4 games in a row, and hitting Ancient 1 at 3897 MMR. What I don't understand is that, if the game "remembers" your peak MMR and keeps you there for both matchmaking and rank awarding, what is the MMR good for?

I dunno, ask Valve. They may have gone a little overboard with the anti-griefing/throwing. - Lemoncake(talk) 21:53, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
I think is something wrong, i get archont 3 in 2500 mmr or something like that, archont 2 was in 2300 mmr. Crusader end in 1970 or like this.
The statement that Divine Rank is only obtainable in solo is false or at least it has been changed some time ago. One of my friends confirmed it to be a while back, that he was in a game where someone hit divine from party. After that I tested it myself with a friend at around 4750 mmr in a 3-stack party with an ancient 5 friend, and surely enough this game https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3865486853 promoted him from Ancient 5 to Divine 0 hitting ~4800. This wasy 11 days ago (May '18). 22.214.171.124 09:23, 15 May 2018 (UTC) Felic
I'd also like to confirm that both solo and party mmr independently raises your seasonal medal depending on which is higher. I calibrated at ancient 0 with a solo at 3900 and party around 4k. My solo has since dropped to 3500 and my party has increased to 4650. I've ranked up to ancient 5 consistently from only playing party games. So wether you get it from party or solo, as long as you hit the mmr you will recieve the medal.

I removed the point about Divine only obtainable via solo. But it's dubious that the system just takes whichever MMR is higher (solo or party) and just bases it on that. As of now, party MMR does count towards medal rank, so your example is normal. - Lemoncake(talk) 09:34, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi! I had been neglecting ranked for a lot of time, and after the new system was introduced, recalibrated lower than ever (But as I understand, that is normal) I got around 2750mmr and Archon 5. I started playing ranked again and i've not been doing so great, lots of losses and bad plays, can't complain really. So I've been constantly dropping mmr and stand around 2530 atm, but to my surprise, I just got promoted to Legend 0. How is that possible? Even if the mmr numbers here are slightly off, this is almost a 600mmr difference. Thanks for any answers! 16:20, 20/05/2018 UTC+2
Happens all the time cuz medals can't go down and the system sometimes pegs you at your peak MMR, meaning any win will bump some people up. Please read the explanation section before looking at the chart. - Lemoncake(talk) 15:03, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
I left my solo at 4400+ and party at 4200+ (Ancient 3). I played my first ranked game after over a month. We won the team challenge and I gained 124mmr, with this game my badge got promoted to (Ancient 4). I saw that the wiki adjusted from ~160mmr to ~130mmr and it looks pretty accurate; it also explains why some people were posting that other team challenge winners got promoted by 2 or 3 stars. Our Ancient 5 teammate didn't reach Divine, the guy had over 4700 solo mmr before but has fallen to about 4500+ solo. He now has 5300+ party. I'll try and update this with what mmr he reaches Divine badge. We just won another 4 games of team challenge so I got my mmr up to 4800+, still hadn't reached Ancient 5 though.
[Question] Hi, i calibrated at archon 3 (solo: 2.8k, party: 2k). I climbed to 3180 solo mmr and earned archon 5 while at the same time dropped my party mmr to 1.6k. Later i dropped my solo mmr to 2.8k and climbed to 3030 and earned legend 0. I earned legend 1 at exactly 3150 and legend 2 at 3270. How's that possible? my current solo mmr is 3125 while party at 1525.
This is explained on the page, please read it first before looking at the chart - Lemoncake(talk) 06:42, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
Is Divine medal can be achieved on party mmr?
