TF2 Outpost is a community-created website that allows players to organize trading of items for other items, Steam games or cash funds. The site was created by Sneeza, and was designed to facilitate quick and efficient transactions between players. While the website was originally conceived for the trading of Team Fortress 2 items, it has since expanded to also support trading of items from other video games, among which Dota 2.
The main page of the site displays the most recent proposed trades by users. To propose or offer for trades, users must sign in with their Steam account via OpenID. When adding a new trade, users can select items from their own backpack to trade, and from the item schema for items they wish to obtain. All trades are public, and once posted, any user can post a message detailing their interest for the trade or outline an alternative offer. The user proposing the trade will receive notification of the offer and can select to accept or ignore the offer. Similar to other trading sites, actual trading of items or Steam games must take place over Steam with Steam Trading. Additionally, TF2 Outpost permits users to add trades for cash as separate transactions off-site.
TF2 Outpost also features search and trade matching service that enables users to track down existing trades for specific items of interest. The site can display the backpacks of the signed-in user and of any user with activity on the site.
Users of TF2 Outpost can choose to provide donations to the site via real world fund transactions, in-game Team Fortress 2 items or Steam game transactions over Steam Trading. Users who donate are rewarded differing ranks to distinguish their account on the site, and top donors are noted on the site's Hall of Fame listing.
TF2 Outpost is continuously maintained by Sneeza and a team of moderators who patrol and remove inappropriate trades. This team is viewable here.
