Spell immunity on enemies[edit]

Spells interact very differently when facing spell immune enemies. Most of them cannot affect spell immune units, some of them can only affect them partially, and some fully pierce spell immunity.

Fully piercing[edit]

These abilities fully affect spell immune units.

Besides the listed abilities, all critical strikes, cleaves and bashes (except for Infernal Blade) pierce spell immunity.

Note: These lists do not consider spell immunity dispelling any buffs or debuffs. They only display how spells' effects react when combined with spell immunity.

Fully piercing spell immune enemies

These abilities also fully pierce spell immunity. However, unlike the ones above, these do not attempt to damage enemies.

1 Only the initial impact damage is fully blocked. Besides that, it fully pierces spell immunity.

Partially piercing[edit]

These abilities neither fully affect spell immune enemies, nor are they fully blocked. Usually, the main part of these abilities pierces spell immunity, while their secondary effects are blocked.

  • Ice Blast icon.png
    Initial blast impact damage does not pierce spell immunity. Debuff is placed on spell immune enemies, and fully works.
  • Brain Sap icon.png
    Cannot target spell immune enemies. When upgraded, can target spell immune enemies.
  • Primal Roar icon.png
    Fully pierce spell immunity on the primary target. Does not pierce spell immunity on secondary targets.
  • Shuriken Toss icon.png
    Cannot directly target spell immune enemies. Can bounce to and off of spell immune enemies. Does not stun or attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Reality Rift icon.png
    Cannot target spell immune units. Can target spell immune units when choosing the Talent talent for it, fully affecting them.
  • Hookshot icon.png
    Fully pierces spell immunity on the primary target. Does not pierce spell immunity on secondary targets.
  • Magnetize icon.png
    Places debuff on spell immune enemies. Can spread to and refresh debuff on spell immune enemies. Does not silence or slow spell immune enemies when another magnetized enemy is hit by Rolling Boulder or Geomagnetic Grip.
  • Fissure icon.png
    Pushes aside and blocks path for all spell immune units. Does not stun or attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Echo Slam icon.png
    Sends echoes towards spell immune enemies, but they do not attempt to deal damage on impact. Initial damage pierces spell immunity.
  • Enchant icon.png
    Cannot be cast on spell immune enemies. If any non-hero unit was enchanted at least once, it can always be targeted by Enchant, regardless of spell immunity.
  • Time Lock icon.png
    Time Lock applied by attacks fully pierces spell immunity. Time Lock applied by Time Walk does not pierce spell immunity.
  • Liquid Fire icon.png
    Can target spell immune enemies. Does not place debuff on spell immune enemies.
  • Macropyre icon.png
    Does not affect spell immune enemies. Fully affects spell immune enemies when the level 25 talent is chosen.
  • Chain Frost icon.png
    Can target and bounce to spell immune enemies. Does not slow or attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Laguna Blade icon.png
    Cannot target spell immune enemies. When upgraded, can target spell immune enemies.
  • Skewer icon.png
    Cannot hit spell immune enemies. Slows and damages enemies when they turn spell immune while already hit.
  • Sacred Arrow icon.png
    Can collide with spell immune enemies. Does not stun and does not attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Stifling Dagger icon.png
    Can be cast on spell immune units. The attack pierces spell immunity, the slow does not.
  • Dream Coil icon.png
    Does not pierce spell immunity when not upgraded. Turning spell immune after cast dispels the leash. When upgraded, leashes spell immune enemies without stunning them. When upgraded, breaking the leash fully pierces spell immunity.
  • Meat Hook icon.png
    Damages and drags spell immune enemies. Does not disable spell immune enemies.
  • Concussive Shot icon.png
    Can target spell immune enemies. Does not affect spell immune enemies. Applies area effects when connecting with spell immune enemy.
  • Headshot icon.png
    Damage pierces spell immunity, slow (Talent and knockback) do not.
  • Spectral Dagger icon.png
    Places trail and slow debuff on spell immune enemies. Slow debuff is inactive while enemy is spell immune.
  • Overload icon.png
    Procs and applies area effect when attacking spell immune enemies. Does not slow and does not attempt to damage spell immune enemies. Fully pierces spell immunity with the level 25 talent.
  • Toss icon.png
    Cannot toss spell immune enemies, but can toss towards spell immune enemies. Does not attempt to damage spell immune enemies within the area, but damage tossed spell immune units (who gained spell immunity during the toss).
  • Ice Shards icon.png
    Pushes aside and blocks path for all spell immune units. Does not attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Magic Missile icon.png
    Cannot target spell immune units. Does not affect units turning spell immune before projectile impact. Fully pierces spell immunity when choosing the Talent talent for it.
  • Soul Assumption icon.png
    Counts damage done by or dealt to spell immune units. Cannot target spell immune enemies.
  • Splinter Blast icon.png
    Cannot directly target spell immune enemies. Secondary projectiles are launched towards spell immune enemies. Does not slow or attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Winter's Curse icon.png
    Can directly target spell immune enemies, fully affecting it. Does not taunt spell immune enemies. Turning spell immune after being taunted does not remove the taunt effect.
  • Paralyzing Cask icon.png
    Cannot directly target spell immune enemies. Can bounce to and off of spell immune enemies. Does not stun or attempt to damage spell immune enemies.
  • Echo Sabre icon.png
    Can proc on spell immune enemies. Cannot slow spell immune enemies.
  • Mjollnir icon.png
    Can be procced by spell immune enemies, and attempts to damage them. Cannot hit secondary spell immune enemies.
  • Silver Edge icon.png
    Can damage spell immune enemies. Does not apply debuff on spell immune enemies.

Not piercing[edit]

These abilities cannot apply their effects on spell immune units. Single target abilities listed in here cannot target them at all, while area effects ignore them. Debuffs which are placed before the target gets spell immune still continue to fully affect the target.

Note: As said before, these lists do not consider spell immunity dispelling any buffs or debuffs, since not all sources of spell immunity dispel. They only display how spells' effects react when combined with spell immunity.

Not piercing spell immune enemies

1 These spells use projectiles. If their target turns spell immune while in flight, they have no effect on the target upon impact with the target. If they have an area effect, it is still applied to nearby enemies.

2 These abilities place a debuff on the target which deals damage. Since already placed debuffs still apply their effects on spell immune units, they also still deal damage.

3 These abilities have a delayed effect. Their delayed effect is not applied if their targets are spell immune at the time. This includes their damage.

4 These abilities have delayed effects as well. However, their effects are still fully applied, even when their target is spell immune at that time. This includes their damage.

5 These abilities continue to work when their target turns spell immune, applying the area effect. However, they do not affect spell immune enemies. This includes the primary target.

6 Unlike all other debuffs, these debuffs immediately stop applying their effects to the target if it turns spell immune. They continue with their effects once the spell immunity is gone, given the debuffs did not expire by then.

7 These abilities periodically check for spell immunity on their targets and end immediately if it gets detected.
