Prismatic Gems change the color of Unusual particle effects on custom couriers socketed with Ethereal Gems, as well as the effects on Terrorblade minimap icon.png Terrorblade's Fractal Horns of Inner Abysm, Techies minimap icon.png Techies' Swine of the Sunken Galley and Witch Doctor minimap icon.png Witch Doctor's Padda'pon of Ribbi'tar.

Socketing[edit]

Prismatic Gems can only be placed into Prismatic sockets, which cannot be created and are only found on Unusual couriers and some Arcana items. When applying a new Prismatic Gem to an item, the existing gem is destroyed. Prismatic Gems can only be extracted with a Master Artificer's Hammer. Doing so will destroy the base item and any general gems socketed.

Legacy Colors[edit]

Legacy Prismatic Gems can be of any possible color. They are displayed as Prismatic: Legacy (#,#,#) where # is the RGB value of the color. Legacy gems are extremely rare.

These colors originated during a time when newly unboxed couriers were assigned a random color on the RGB spectrum, thus making their color nearly unique. This feature was removed after concerns that randomly chosen colors were sometimes visually unappealing.

  • Light Blue (50, 166, 207), Magenta (196,57,198), and Persian (41,36,203) were originally standard colors, but were later removed. Gems with these colors are nearly as rare as Legacy color gems.

History[edit]

Before the introduction of socketing on November 14, 2013, Unusual Paint was used to color Unusual couriers. On that date, all Unusual Paints were converted into Gem Packs, which contain a corresponding color gem and an Artificer's Chisel for creating a socket. Unusual couriers were granted the Ethereal Gem and Prismatic Gem corresponding to their effect.
