The goal of the Model Pictures project is to create a collection of pictures that show the in-game models of the heroes of Dota 2.
All pictures are made through the use of the Counter Strike:Global Offensive SDK's model viewer, until such time that Dota 2 has its own SDK and we can start taking pictures in there. The current SDK, however, does not support particle effects, which in some cases leads to a noticeably different looking hero, with Morphling, Enigma and Wisp being most prominent.
A guide to hooking up Dota 2 models to the CS:GO SDK can be found here
All feedback and discussions go to the talk page so that this page will remain clear for the pictures and potentially expanded explanation on this page. When you give feedback on one or more pictures, please be precise in what you dislike.
This is merely a first draft for the guidelines, and can all be discussed for change.
- Heroes are in action poses. What pose differs per hero, as some poses look better for some heroes than others. The normal BindPose can already been seen in-game as well, thus further motivating us to use different poses.
- Try to go for poses that are high rather than wide, as infoboxes are limited in width, not in height.
- In due to some heroes having transparent bodyparts (AA's arms, VS's weapon), and in due to how the human eye work, where dark images on a white background appear even darker and lose detail, all backgrounds are a dark gray. The dark gray used is one of the basiscolours, the fourth colour from the left on the lowermost row, in the colourselection box.
|Abaddon||Looks a bit funky without particle effects.|
|Brewmaster||Spot on, wouldn't you say?|
|Death Prophet||Doesn't she look excited.|
|Enigma||Particle effects can't be loaded into the SDK.|
|Gyrocopter||So many moving parts!|
|Io||Io has no actual model, it is solely particle effects.|
|Keeper of the Light|
|Morphling||Similar issue as with Enigma.|
|Nature's Prophet||This one's for Matt.|
|Ogre Magi||Scritch, scritch.|
|Outworld Devourer||Model was really broken, this was cleaned up externally.|
|Phantom Lancer||His weapon freaks out whenever he lets go of it. One of the few good shots I could make.|
|Phoenix||Similar issue as with Enigma.|
|Pudge||'Hey there mea-uh, I mean, mate!'|
|Queen of Pain|
|Razor||Similar issue as with Enigma.|
|Shadow Demon||Similar issue as with Enigma.|
|Shadow Fiend||Similar issue as with Enigma.|
|Skeleton King||No particle effects mean no eyes. He is arguably more creepy this way.|
|Slardar||In between his nose looking like that of a clown and the HAHA! pose, this is one of the few animations where he atleast looked reasonable.|
|Spectre||Similar issue as with Enigma.|
|Tidehunter||Doesn't he look cute?|
|Venomancer||I believe Valve was going for 'Nightmare Fuel', just a guess though.|
|Viper||Not a lot of animation variation.|
