Lyralei the Windranger is a ranged intelligence hero that uses powerful abilities in conjunction with her physical attack to take down enemies. Despite being an intelligence Hero, Windranger's playstyle resembles that of an agility Hero, due in large part to her skill set. Windranger is most often played as an offlane solo due to her escape, long range harass, and farm capability; however, she is quite versatile and can be fielded as a midlaner, roamer, lane support, or even a carry, if the game calls for it. She is famous for her immense utility and versatility.
Bio
▶️ "If at first you don't succeed, stand closer, shoot again."
Lore:
The western forests guard their secrets well. One of these is Lyralei, master archer of the wood, and favored godchild of the wind. Known now as Windranger, Lyralei's family was killed in a storm on the night of her birth—-their house blown down by the gale, contents scattered to the winds. Only the newborn survived among the debris field of death and destruction. In the quiet after the storm, the wind itself took notice of the lucky infant crying in the grass. The wind pitied the child and so lifted her into the sky and deposited her on a doorstep in a neighboring village. In the years that followed, the wind returned occasionally to the child’s life, watching from a distance while she honed her skills. Now, after many years of training, Windranger fires her arrows true to their targets. She moves with blinding speed, as if hastened by a wind ever at her back. With a flurry of arrows, she slaughters her enemies, having become, nearly, a force of nature herself.

Enemy Heroes
Shackles the target to an enemy unit or tree in a line directly behind it. If no unit or tree is present, the stun duration is reduced to 0.75.
- Shackleshot travels at a speed of 1515. and cannot be disjointed.
- The projectile searches for enemies or trees within 26° at the opposite side of the target from where Shackleshot was cast from.
- This means when Windranger blinked away after cast, it will latch based on the cast location, not her current location.
- Shackleshot always prioritizes units over trees.
- If the target gets shackled to a unit, both of them are stunned for the full duration.
- The stun also persists, when one of the target gets freed from the stun earlier.
- When the primary target dies before the shackle reaches it, it still can latch to a secondary unit and stun it.
- Can be cast on, but cannot latch on ancient creeps, Roshan, Warlock's Golem and the Primal Split spirits.
- Can latch on invisible units, units in the Fog of War and the trees from Sprout.
Powershot
Windranger charges her bow for up to 1 second for a single powerful shot, which deals more damage the longer it is charged. The arrow damages enemies and destroys trees along its path. For each enemy that Powershot hits, its damage is reduced by 10%.
- Powershot has an instant cast time before the channeling
- Powershot initially travels at a speed of 3000.
- The arrow can damage units up to 2725 range away (2600 travel distance + 125 damage radius).
- The full damage is done after the full 1.0 second of channel time. Each channeled 0.01 seconds increase its damage by 1%.
- Every time the arrow hits an enemy, its current speed and damage are reduced by 10%. The arrow still will travel its full distance.
- However, the visual effects of the spell do not reflect the current speed. Visually, the arrow will always travel at 3000 speed and travel until the damage reached the full distance.
- The arrow grants 400 range flying vision as it travels, which sticks at its final location for 3.34 seconds.
- The arrow destroys trees within 75 radius around it while traveling. Hit trees does not reduce the damage nor the speed.
- The sound of a bow getting stretched during the cast and channeling time is audible to allies only.
- This is how much damage the arrow deals (after reductions) and how fast it travels after hitting a certain amount of units:
- 1 unit: 108/180/252/324 damage and 2700 speed
- 2 units: 97.2/162/226.8/291.6 damage and 2430 speed
- 6 units: 63.8/106.3/148.8/191.3 damage and 1594.3 speed
- 10 units: 41.8/69.7/97.6/125.5 damage and 1046 speed
- 15 units: 24.7/41.2/57.6/74.1 damage and 617.7 speed
- 25 units: 8.6/14.4/20.1/25.8 damage and 215.4 speed

Self
Increases movement speed and adds evasion from all physical attacks, while slowing movement of nearby enemies.
- Windrun has an instant cast time, but interrupts channeling spells upon cast.
- Grants Windranger 100% chance Evasion for its duration.
- This means that True Strike allows attackers to bypass the evasion. However, the disjointed projectiles upon cast will miss still.
- The slow is provided by an aura on Windranger. The debuff lingers for 2 seconds after getting out of range.

Enemies
Enemies
Windranger channels the wind, gaining maximum attack speed on the enemy unit or structure, although with reduced attack damage, including damage from unique attack modifiers and item effects.
Cast Range: 600
Attack Damage Reduction: 50%/40%/30% (30%/15%/0%*)
Attack Speed Bonus: 500
Duration: 20
Lyralei's ability to bombard opponents with a flurry of arrows is unparalleled - even at the expense of accuracy.
- Focus Fire has an instant cast time and orders Windranger to attack the target.
- Only reduces Windranger's base and bonus damage when attacking the target. Damage from items effects (e.g. Monkey King Bar, Diffusal Blade) are unaffected.
- Focus Fire does not guarantee full attack speed. The provided attack speed can be negated by strong attack speed slows.
- Windranger can switch attack targets without losing the buff against the Focus Fire target.
- When switching attack targets, the attack speed adapts as soon as the projectile is launched, while the damage adapts after the projectile hits.
- This means when the attack target is switched, the first attack against the new target will deal reduced damage. The following attacks deal normal damage.
- This also goes the other way. When switching back to the Focus Fire target, the first attack will deal normal damage, the following attacks reduced damage.
- Casting Focus Fire on multiple targets will only grant the attack speed and damage reduction against the target of the most recent cast.
- Focus Fire ends prematurely when Windranger dies, but persists through the target's death.
- Can be cast on any enemy unit, including buildings and wards, excluding invulnerable or hidden units.

Tips
- If you must solo a lane, take Windrun first. This will give you a reliable escape if you are being ganked early.
- Powershot should always be maxed first, as it is a very powerful nuke early. One point in both Shackleshot and Windrun is usually sufficient. Remember that Powershot damages invisible heroes, so if you know where they are do not hesitate to use it. Late-game, Powershot can be used as an exploratory long-range spell.
- Powershot can be used to farm the inner large and medium neutral creep camps simultaneously and can also be used to stack them from afar. Consider building an Orchid Malevolence so you can spam your nuke for quick farming while negating your ultimate's damage reduction.
- Mekansm is very strong on Windranger. Consider getting it on her after your upgraded boots, provided no one else can get it at a similar time. Remember, Mekansm is better the earlier it's gotten.
- Getting either a Blink Dagger and/or a Force Staff is practically a necessity on Windranger, as she is an entirely positioning-based hero.
- Blink Dagger is an excellent alternative to Force Staff, recommended for advanced users. Defensively, Windrun synergizes well with Blink Dagger to allow Windranger to escape extremely bad situations, which in turn allows her to split push much more effectively without fear of getting caught. Offensively, Blink Dagger will allow Windranger to land 2-hero Shackleshots on demand and chase down fleeing targets with Windrun. Lastly, Blink Dagger can be used in the middle of a teamfight to improve Windranger's position and allow her to attack from a position of strength, since she will benefit from having the space to work with. Particularly recommended against heroes who counter Force Staff, or if you feel that you need to avoid getting caught altogether e.g. Slark's Pounce, Faceless Void's Chronosphere. Bear in mind that Blink has a significantly shorter cooldown than Force Staff, which therefore allows her to use Blink much more aggressively and positionally than Force Staff would.
- Shackleshot's mini-stun is extremely useful for interrupting channeled spells, such as Bane's and Pudge's ultimates.
- Early-game, unless circumstances are unusual, always save enough mana to Windrun when you are in dangerous territory.
- Due to the rework of Focus Fire, it might be useful to level it early, as it is now more useful in teamfights, allowing you to focus down the enemy carry or get an exposed early tower.
- Despite being an escape mechanism, Windrun is potentially a very powerful offensive spell, as it allows complete evasion for six seconds at level four giving you a chance to effectively trade hits with an enemy especially by using Focus Fire in conjunction.
- Building an Aghanim's Scepter with a powerful attack modifier can shift Windranger's role from supportive chaser/nuker to that of a semi-carry, as it will allow her to scale. However, building a scepter without an attack modifier is not very useful, and Windranger can function very well with attack modifiers even without building a scepter. Build an attack modifier first, then choose whether or not to build scepter.
- As a Mid or Offlane Windranger, Maelstrom is an excellent item on Windranger provided you can get it early enough, as it serves multiple purposes while shifting her role into that of a damage dealing ganker. It provides an excellent attack modifier for Focus Fire, greatly increasing both her single-target and AOE damage, and also does not prevent Windranger from using another Unique Attack Modifier (e.g. Desolator, Eye of Skadi). Maelstrom greatly increases her pushing and depush power, as she is able to clear large waves quickly and efficiently with Powershot and Maelstrom procs. It acts as a farm accelerator, meaning that she will be able to farm more expensive items more quickly. The damage increase is very significant, allowing you to burst most heroes from 100 to 0 within the duration of a Shackleshot when you first buy Maelstrom. The powerful attack modifier leads into Aghanim's Scepter due to the increased farm rate and kill potential, while the increased damage and reduced cooldown vastly improves Windranger's sustained damage in teamfights, ganks and while pushing towers. Do not get Maelstrom if you cannot get it early enough, as its damage does fall off, and getting it late often will be at the cost of a late mobility item or generally low farm.
- If you have the time, getting a Mjollnir again increase your damage from 120 (80 after reduction) to a whopping 150 (112 after reduction) magical damage to 8 targets instead of 5. This increases your ability to farm AND fight by another large margin and makes your presence in teamfights even more powerful, as you are almost guaranteed to affect every enemy hero from the Chain Lightning proc - like Luna with her Moon Glaive, Mjollnir can clear the involved creep waves to get everyone affected. Furthermore, the added attack speed means that you can still fight with your own auto-attacks more efficiently when Focus Fire is off cooldown due to the added attack speed. However, getting Mjollnir is equivalent to Spectre getting Radiance - you must get it as early as possible as it becomes less effective later in the game.
Trivia
- In DotA, Windranger was known as Alleria the Windrunner. Alleria Windrunner is a character from the Warcraft universe. In the November 21, 2013 update, her name was changed to "Windranger", likely to avoid copyright issues with Blizzard.[1]
- Windranger's current name, Lyralei, is a partial anagram of Alleria (one of the A's was replaced with the Y).
