Rizzrack the Timbersaw is a melee Strength hero that excels in dealing damage and causing destruction in large areas. His effectiveness is improved by having trees around him, as they can amplify the damage of his spells and allow him to escape easily. He is not naturally very durable, but can be surprisingly resilient when he is attacked due to Reactive Armor, and when surrounded by favorable terrain he can be extremely hard to pin down and kill. He can cause chaos in the early game because he has a low cost ultimate that can wreak havoc. In addition to this, most of his spells deal pure damage, unreduced by magic resistance or armor. With proper positioning and timing, he can cause massive damage to multiple enemies while also decreasing their movement speed and attributes.

Bio

Timbersaw minimap iconRizzrack, the Timbersaw
▶️ "I'm not a lumberjack. This. This is personal."
Rizzrack could still hear the screams in his mind. He worked, frantically turning wrenches, twisting screws, building and carving and forging. Sleep eluded him; he only built. Months had passed since he had shut himself in his uncle's workshop, and his deliverance was nearly complete. He rubbed his back as his eyes drifted shut, and saw a blanket of flowers floating on the placid waves of Augury Bay before exploding into a cloud of pollen that silenced lives as it seized the lungs. He woke with a choking start. For hours the rhythmic sound of a whetstone filled the shop as he sharpened a set of massive blades, his mind filled with images of strangling vines garroting neighbors, enwrapping homes. The flooding of Augury Bay had been nothing compared to the violent horrors the waters left to take root beyond the city walls. But the saw-suit would make him strong and safe he thought, allowing himself this sliver of hope before the full might of his fear crashed into his fading mind. Branches and blood. When the city fell, Rizzrack fled trees that walked, and fought, and killed. Trees had shattered the gates and swarmed into the city. Trees had crushed and thrashed and stomped the last that Augury Bay could muster in defense, and stalked the few fleeing refugees. In addled silence Rizzrack unspooled the thick chain from the suit's arm, his hands quaking as he inspected each link and ran a trembling finger along the claw attached at its end. The saw-suit was ready. With his hand trembling he sparked the bladed machine to life. Terror drove him, terror of what awaited him and of what he would have to face to have any hope of calming his mind. As the saw-suit shuddered to life he knew he must face this fear, and he knew he wouldn't like it one bit.

  • The chain travels at a speed of 1600/2000/2400/2800
  • The chain looks for a tree in a 90 unit radius of the target.
  • The latch range for a tree is 50 units greater than the cast range at all levels.
  • Destroys the target tree once Timbersaw arrives.
  • Can be used to pull Timbersaw across impassable terrain.
  • Always casts to its maximum possible range in the targeted direction.
  • Timber Chain can be interrupted by stuns, but damage is dealt in small area near hero
  • If Timber Chain is used on a tree and Lua error in Module:Ability_ID at line 61: Could not find Cargo data for "Astral Imprisonment". is used on the caster along the way, he will still be imprisoned; but will appear near the tree when the the imprisonment ends.

Pure
Fires your main saw blade at the target location, and once there the blade will spin, dealing damage in an area around it and slowing enemies. For each 5% of health missing, enemies caught in the saw blade move more slowly. The blade deals damage and cuts down trees in its path when fired and retracted. You lose the ability to attack and your mana gets drained while the blade is out.

  • Chakram returns to Timbersaw if he goes more than 2000 units away. Destroys trees.
  • The Chakram travels at a speed of 900.
  • Slow stickiness is 0.5
  • Passthrough damage may only be dealt to the same target once in each direction. In other words, a target can only take the initial 100/140/180 damage from Chakram once, no matter how many times they enter or leave the AoE. However, the moment the return is activated, that target becomes valid for another instance of 100/140/180 damage if Chakram touches it.

Tips

  • Arcane Boots can be disassembled into Boots of Speed and an Energy Booster. This energy booster can then be used to build a Bloodstone.
    • You may want to build the Boots of Speed into Boots of Travel once you've done this.
    • It's not always the best idea to disassemble the Arcane Boots. If any of the heroes on your team have mana problems, but have to build other items to be successful, it can sometimes be a good idea to keep the Arcane Boots just to support your allies.
    • Having the Bloodstone early is almost always more critical than having the Arcane Boots. If your team has mana problems, you can always buy another Mana Booster to re-make your Arcane Boots.
  • If you are ready to gank in a side lane and are behind trees, use your Chakram to destroy the trees in front of you, then use your Timber Chain on the other side of the lane; after this, a well placed Whirling Death can almost ensure a kill in many situations.
  • One of Timbersaw's weaknesses is his lack of disrupting spells; he suffers against heroes who excel at channeling spells to harm their opponents. In this case, equip him with an item that has a quick disable, such as Eul's Scepter of Divinity.
  • When a hero is escaping through only one potential exit, use Chakram to block that path; if successful, the enemy hero will be forced to run through the blade, losing health immensely and slowing down in the process. To further slow the hero down, cast Whirling Death while the hero is in the middle of the Chakram, making sure that you don't widen the enemy hero's escape path.
  • When deployed, Chakram's movement is somewhat delayed; make sure to predict your target's path and cast it ahead of time.
  • Chakram synergizes well with multi-target abilities that disable free movement, such as Enigma minimap icon Enigma's Black Hole, Treant Protector minimap icon Treant Protector's Overgrowth, or even Disruptor minimap icon Disruptor's Kinetic Field.
  • Aside for tanking damage in team fights, Reactive Armor can also be used as a quick health regeneration boost. You can either visit the easy creep camps since they do small damage and come in groups, or tank lane creeps when no enemy hero is present. As long as there are multiple targets attacking you in quick succession, the spell will stack faster, and you will be able to heal faster. Make sure you're receiving damage that is lesser than what you are able to regenerate.
  • Aside from escape, Timbersaw's skill set also makes for good chasing. Cut down trees that get in your way to widen your path and even prevent juking.
  • The trees summoned by Nature's Prophet minimap icon Nature's Prophet through Sprout are still standard trees to Timbersaw. As an enemy, you can easily cut it down to escape, or free allies who are trapped within it. As an ally, this can be used to your advantage when escaping (as Prophet can summon trees in a convenient location for you to use Timber Chain) or when fighting (Prophet can summon trees closer to you when no other tree is present, so that you can deal pure damage when casting Whirling Death).
  • Blink Dagger can give Rizzrack incredible engagement ability or even more escape potential. With this setup, he can blink on top of an enemy out of position, use Whirling Death, drop his Chakram, and Timber Chain to safety. It also allows him to easily position himself to hit multiple enemies with his Whirling Death and Chakram. This item is only really recommended if your team lacks a better initiator, or you are very far ahead.
  • Orchid Malevolence can be a good pickup if you are having issues with an enemy disabling, silencing, or blinking away from you. On top of the silence this brings, it gives Timber even more mana regen and mana pool, as well as extra damage output with the burst at the end of the silence. In combination with a Blink Dagger, Timbersaw becomes incredibly fearsome and can punish anyone out of position with ease.
  • Chakram works very well against heroes with long channeling abilities, such as Shadow Shaman. By casting Chakram while they are channeling, they'll either have to move and cancel their channeling, or stay and take damage.

Trivia

  • In DotA, Rizzrack's hero title was Goblin Shredder. Unlike his Dota 2 counterpart, he cut trees for profit and was not afraid of them.
  • His response (upon killing Treant Protector minimap icon Treant Protector) "If you fall in the woods, and I laugh, will anyone hear me?" is a reference to the popular philosophical question "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?". [1]
  • His response "I'm not a lumberjack, and no, I'm not okay. I thank you." is a reference to "Monty Python's Flying Circus" in which they sing a song called "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay". [2]
  • His response "Trees? Why did it have to be trees?" is a reference to the Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark line "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?" [3]
  • The dome of his armor closes with stack of reactive armor, enclosing him completely with 16 stacks.
