Dota 2 Test Client[]

Can we agree not to add Heroes that are available in the Test client until they show up in the proper beta client? They still feel more appropriate in Unreleased Content. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.120.144.202 (talk) • (contribs) • Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Agreed. Bane is still on the Unreleased page and he should stay that way. Nickoladze 00:44, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Heroes don't go to the released table until they hit the main client. However any info found about them can be added to their pages (such as icons, bio, etc) -ChocolateWaffle 00:54, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. Faraday 06:08, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
I started this discussion, but if people are going to remove heroes (Here, Brewmaster) from Unreleased Content because of the test release, then we may as well move them here than not have them anywhere. This is especially true now that there's only a day between Test -> Release patches. More importantly, I've put Brewmaster in Dire where Valve has placed him. They haven't specified whether it's intentional or not, but his lore doesn't go either way.--Sarcophallus 23:44, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Sortable hero table[]

I've begun work on User:Jrr/HeroTable.. anyone want to help with it / promote to a real page? What other columns should be included?

--Jrr 04:59, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

What sick man left heroes out my hero jar?![]

Smashman has suggested that we alter this page and make a distinction between which heroes are and aren't currently in-game. I don't really know who is and isn't, not being in the beta and all... so I'm leaving this note here in case someone else fancies doing it. RJackson 19:55, 29 September 2011 (CDT)

Voice Actors[]

How should we go about mentioning the voice actors? Should we put it under trivia, like on Pudge, Tinker and Lich's pages, or just mention it in the summary like on Anti-Mage's page? -HTML Earth 06:52, 19 October 2011 (CDT)

It's still not decided, as we don't know all the voice actors. It could go either on the Trivia or the Bio. -ChocolateWaffle 07:15, 19 October 2011 (CDT)
I've gone ahead and added all of the obvious ones that I know of to the trivia sections. -HTML Earth 14:44, 19 October 2011 (CDT)

Hero Count[]

Can someone add a count for all the heroes in the game? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.68.203.70 (talk) • (contribs) • Please sign your posts with ~~~~

As of this post, there are 66 Heroes in game, evenly split 33/33 for Radiant/Dire. There are 108 in DotA. -Lancey 19:20, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

107 now, and with techies 108. August 2014

Strength Heroes pigeonholed[]

Strength Heros are not mostly Initiators or tanks( not a role) Check the current list; almost half the heros are pure carries, which many more having great semi carry potential. Many of the heros, especially the ones considered initiators also have iconic skills that are make them excellent gankers. Hero NavBox[]

I've made the NavBox in an uncollapsed state the primary thing visible on this page. Does anyone have serious issues with this? It's by far the most clear way to display the heroes and so it should be topmost on the Heroes page, in my opinion. Decency 21:59, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

I don't think it looks good there, there is already a table in the main page for quick access, so there is no need to shove another nav in people's faces there. If anything, leave the bottom ones expanded. -ChocolateWaffle 22:37, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. I really don't think it belongs there, as the page is already listing all heroes in the game and the main page contains the navbox. As well, the navbox is located at the bottom of this page. --Aradalf 00:36, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
If you have to scroll to the bottom of the page and open a new section, it's not easy to access. The stupid blurbs on the heroes don't say anything meaningful and can be entirely deleted in my opinion. It's the "Heroes" page on a wiki, it should be extremely efficient in showing you the heroes and it's simply not. Decency 16:16, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll throw in my chips with Decency. I prefer the page as it existed in November. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ --Kroocsiogsi 00:14, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Can you do a vote on these things? Decency 17:52, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
I can't figure this out. I want to just put the NavBox at the top in a collapsed state as a compromise so it's still easy to access but less obtrusive, but it's completely screwing up the formatting of the page. Anyone know how to fix this? Decency 22:22, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
A comment block was incorrectly placed during the last update. I fixed it. --Kroocsiogsi 01:35, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

More reasoning in expectation of further views:

  • The point of a heroes page, to me, is to view all the heroes quickly. This takes about 4 screen lengths, currently, as we've added meaningless blurbs on each hero that take up quite a bit of space.
  • The blurbs we've added aren't from any official lore and are for the most part poorly written- I see no reason to even keep these.
  • The HeroNav box, in its default collapsed state, takes up about a line, but adds this functionality at a click.
  • Previous disagreement was with the NavBox being uncollapsed by default, which I agree was too obtrusive but didn't know how to change.

Adding star players to heroes[]

Someone on reddit asked for replays, where pros played a hero exceptionally well. This made me think about adding pros to the hero-boxes like heroes are added to the player-boxes as signature heroes. Any problems about that? The preceding unsigned comment was added by U Rec Bighead (talk) • (contribs)

I don't think this should be put into the hero infoboxes. If it even belongs on the hero page at all, it should be at the bottom. The hero page is typically for gameplay information, but since we already have some trivia and strategy elements at the bottom, a "Notable Players" section would not, in my opinion, be amiss, and might even be a welcome feature for those looking to learn how to play better. -Baloroth 14:21, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I dont' think this would add anything of value to articles and it alone is very subjective information. I vote no. -RJ 17:37, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I definitely would like to see this. We can add "Notable Players" and also some replays where those players use the hero in a professional game. The upcoming International 2 would be a great way to introduce this feature. I assume there is some way we can upload replays to the wiki to be directly downloadable? Also, @RJackson, it's not very subjective. If a player is using a hero in a professional game and does well, that's as "objective" as any strategy is ever going to be. Icon errors[]

A various # of icons are incorrect Ssmeek 18:10, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Medusa[]

She is now available to select and play during a match.

Sorting heroes names[]

It's currently not easy to find an hero by his name because their names are not alphabetically sorted. Caniveau Royal 04:45, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Kunkka[]

Kunkka's text reads "The Captain and sole survivor of a doomed navy, Kunkka wields the legendary sword Tidebringer, capable of destroying enemy armies, manipulating huge Torrents and summoning the Ghost Ship of CoCo."

Is... is this a mistake? Who is CoCo? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 184.19.79.46 (talk) • (contribs) 03:12, April 19, 2013‎

In the original Dota, the Ghost Ship was the "S.S. CoCo". -- Outworld Devourer icon Seven Five Seven 03:17, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

What makes a Rival?[]

Something that has made me think and ponder a lot is what makes certain heroes rivals to other heroes? Is it that their abilities can counter and contrast each other, or is it from a history in their lore that goes back to the First DOTA? Horsemen1337 (talk) 23:52, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Page Readability[]

Can we please edit this page to be more readable? Many of the Hero descriptions over-lap or line up wrong.

Hero Summaries[]

Now that the game client includes short descriptions of heroes, I think the summaries on this page should be replaced by these official ones. 124.171.65.13 15:53, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Need update[]

Number of hero released. --Elite stay (talk) 00:55, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Typos[]

Please, change "posessing" to "possessing". --Psion1C (talk) 19:08, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Is the number of heroes incorrect?[]

The article says, "Currently, 112 of the 113 heroes are playable". I think, there are 113 heroes playable as of the end of 2016. Also, what does 112 of 113 even mean? Even if it was written before the release of Wukong, there were 112 of 112 heroes at the time as Wukong has never been in DotA Allstars.

Anyway, I'm changing it to 113 as 7.00 has long gone live.--Adunaii (talk) 10:10, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

P.S. I can't change it, please, help, thank you.--Adunaii (talk) 10:12, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

I don't see where it written -_-. Medok 14:55, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
It was already fixed.Molldust (talk) 15:15, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Commenting out the "legs" attribrute[]

It's been a year since the only minor event that ever cared about the number of legs a hero has, I think the trait should be commented out from the infobox and table, if not outright deleted. It's a self-evident point of trivia now. The infobox doesn't even list the faction anymore, and it lists something even more obvious?Prezombie (talk) 01:47, 10 June 2017 (UTC) Prezombie (talk) 01:47, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Eh, I like it. No harm keeping it.. and reddit seems to think it's cool too - Lemoncake(talk) 01:55, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
Also, the faction affiliation was removed in Dota 2 already (I think at some point as Dota 2 Reborn was released), so it's not listed purposely. --Psion1C (talk) 07:00, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

That's kind of my point, the infobox doesn't include the trivia of the faction, as the game doesn't use that bit of information for anything now. How is Legs any different? Prezombie (talk) 13:15, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

The difference has already been said. Factions got removed from the game for the heroes. Legs are not removed. ~~ Bu3ny (talk) 15:07, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
