Soul Burn
Ability Affects Damage
Target Unit Enemies Magical
Silences target unit for 5 seconds and amplifies the damage it takes by 30%.
Cast Range: 900
Damage Amplification: 30%
Duration: 5
Cooldown 18 Mana 100

  • Does not directly amplify damage as it is dealt, but rather saves all damage values and deals 30% of it 5 seconds after cast.
  • This means that the damage can be avoided by turning immune to magic damage at the end of the duration.
  • The damage is applied exactly 5 seconds after cast when the target has the debuff on. The damage is not directly bound to the debuff.
  • So removing the debuff prematurely will also prevent it from damaging, since the conditions are not met anymore.
  • Only considers magical, physical and pure damage (after all reductions). Other sources of health loss are ignored.
  • Successive casts on the same target do not stack, but only refresh the silence duration.
  • The damage amplification is not refreshed. It will deal damage 5 seconds after the first cast. Following casts will not amplify or deal damage.

  • Orchid is great against Intelligence heroes as they are dependent on their abilities to deal damage, but it is also effective against heroes with escape abilities like Weaver or Anti Mage.
  • You can easily initiate on a lone enemy by combining it with a Shadow Blade or Blink Dagger.
  • If you are facing agility heroes, you can sometimes replace the Orchid with an earlier Blade Mail. Agility heroes like Phantom Assassin and Sniper can easily fight without their spells, but often cannot survive having their own damage reflected back. Blade Mail will also provide intelligence and damage, though notably less than an Orchid would.
    • Be aware, however, that an Orchid will amplify any damage that your target takes. If that makes your burst damage outweigh that of you opponents, it will be well worth the extra time and gold spent to purchase it.
