Invisible units and Heroes do not appear on their opponent's screen or minimap, and cannot be targeted directly. Invisible units can still be affected by some non-targeted spells, such as area attacks. However, certain abilities do not affect Invisible units, such as Earthshaker's Echo Slam. Heroes can become Invisible by using skills, items, and runes.

Generally, Heroes remain Invisible until their Invisibility duration runs out, or they perform an action, such as attacking an enemy or using an item. Invisible units can be seen with True Sight, but it will not dispel invisibility.

All ranged attacks and most projectile abilities are disjointed by Invisibility. If a Hero is targeted with a ranged attack, and goes invisible while the projectile is in flight, it will not damage or affect them. Some projectile abilities will still affect invisible Heroes, and some will have other effects entirely.

Invisiblity effects also have a Fade Time incorporated in them. Fade Time is the time it takes for a hero to go invisible after casting the ability; or in the case of permanent invisibility, after attacking or performing another action. During this time, the hero can still be targeted, although they will be partially transparent.

Units affected by permanent invisibility will generally not auto-acquire nearby targets to attack if that option is not disabled in the settings menu, with the notable exception of Shadow Dance. However, they will attack enemies if they or a nearby allied unit is under attack. Units under permanent invisibility will maintain their pathing collision box. Depending on the source, permanent invisibility may not be dispelled by attacking, casting spells, or using items.

Wind Walk abilities grant their target unitwalking and remove their collision box. Wind Walking units will never auto-acquire targets. Casting Wind Walk will not interrupt channeled abilities or those with long cast times, such as Requiem of Souls or Teleportation.

True Sight allows a unit to see Invisible enemies that are in range. Fountains, the Ancients, and all Towers passively have True Sight. The following items and abilities also provide true sight.

While most abilities will affect units even if they are invisible, some will only partially affect invisible units, and many will not affect them at all. These include area-of-effect abilities such as Echo Slam, target-seeking abilities such as Eclipse, and as projectile-based abilities such as Shackleshot.
